About Me

I work as an intranet developer for a UK manufacturing company. I try to keep abreast of current trends and best practises in web development where things move very quickly, both a curse and a blessing.

I like to take photographs and in 2011 I undertook a 365 project which involved taking a half-decent (i.e. not just a snapshot) photo every day for a whole year. I figured it would be challenging but I had no idea just how challenging it would prove to be. However, I succeeded. 365 project…done. I post most of my photos on Flickr. and have an online store where you can buy my photographs as wall art.

I run, typically totalling 20–30 miles per week, each run between 3 and 10 miles in length although I have run marathon-length distances. It’s great for giving my mind time to chill out for a while not to mention the fitness benefit. In October 2013 I ran the 20 Kilomètres de Paris (01:40:31), in April 2014 the Virgin Money London Marathon (half 01:49:11 and finish 04:10:06) and in September 2014 the Bupa Great North Run (01:50:00).  I ran both the VMLM and GNR for the type one diabetic charity JDRF and raised over £1,900.

I love learning. Amongst other things, I’m currently learning Esperanto which, being a constructed language, is a little like learning a new programming language and I’d learn something new all day, every day if I could.

I like play games. I’m a PC gamer (although running and photography limit my free time). I prefer slower, strategy-style games like Company of Heroes 2, Civilization V and XCOM: Enemy Unknown than fast and furious shoot ’em ups. Having said that, I’m not averse to a decent FPS now and again; I’m just not that good at them :(

I try to blog about photography, running, web development, diabetes and gaming. I don't always succeed.
